Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Lancers Stun Badgers with Weekend Split in St. Catharines

The Windsor Lancers women's volleyball team defeated the Brock Badgers on Saturday night with a 3-1 (27-25, 23-25, 26-24, and 25-20) victory over the Badgers but followed up on Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 (18-25, 18-25, and 20-25) loss at the Bob Davis Gymnasium inside the Walker Complex at Brock University's campus in St. Catharines.

SATURDAY STATS

Aliah Admans notched a game high of 17 kills leading her team offensively while Aryn Markett contributed heavily to the offensive flow on the blue and gold's side with her 15 kills.

At the net, Jordyn Brearley had a monster 10 block performance which set a season-high record for the Lancers this season meanwhile Danika Scharff recorded 7 blocks of her own along with dishing out 38 assists to help her team pull off the first night upset at Brock.

SATURDAY GAME FLOW

The Badgers controlled the pace of the game early on as they held a lead that grew steadily before the Lancers battled back to equalize the set at 11-11.

The blue and gold would flip the script and obtain the lead, but the Badgers would not back down after that finding a way to resiliently claw back and eventually met Windsor at 24-24 and again at 25-25.

The Lancers would find a way to close out the set 27-25 with Hope Simpson's kill to go up 1-0 in the match.

In the second set, Windsor would reverse the previous set's flow with their early lead setting the tone to begin the set before the Badgers found a way to sharpen their claws for a scratch back score of 25-23 to round out the second set and equalize the match at one set apiece.

Fresh off dropping the second set the determined Lancers rallied around their grit to grind their way through a difficult third set. Extra points would be required once more to solve this set in a win-by-two set scenario again where this time the Lancers would emerge victorious with a 26-24 third set score from Admans set winning kill to take a 2-1 advantage.

Fourth set action started off with the Lancers trading points with the Badgers before gaining an edge toward the midway mark and with that the gap widened to give Windsor an opportunity to seal the deal over the hosts from Brock. Thriving off the road momentum the Lancers cruised to a 25-20 fourth set win to earn a 3-1 match victory over the Badgers in their first outing on the weekend on the road in the Niagara region.

SUNDAY STATS

Admans led the way again on Sunday for the blue and gold offensively with 6 kills and defensively with 7 digs.

Brearley was also again effective in Brock's territory with 5 kills and 8 block points up at the net.

Abby Scott also had a good performance in the loss with her 4 kills, whopping 4 service aces and 3 blocks.

SUNDAY GAME FLOW

The first set started with stability for both sides trading points early before the Badgers emerged from the ground up toward to midway point of the set to claw towards earning a 25-18 first set win and go up 1-0 in the match.

The second set was a little more in favour of Brock at the start before Windsor sparked a comeback following being down 8-3 to joust back and meet the Badgers at 8-8 on a strong service ace streak run from Scott which gave the Lancers some much needed momentum.

Brock would find a way to break the tie and pick up steam in the later stages of the set to rack up the necessary points on the scoreboard and climb to a 2-0 lead with an identical 25-18 result on the visitors from Windsor.

The Lancers were tested once more in the third set as the Badgers had their sights set on a sweeping defeat to avenge Saturday's home loss from the blue and gold.

Despite a valiant effort from the Lancers, the veteran Badgers squad would round out this mid-day matinee in three straight sets earning a 25-20 third set win and 3-0 match victory.
