The Lancer women's basketball team extended their current winning streak to five after back-to-back wins over the Algoma Thunderbirds this weekend.
FRIDAY STATS
Julia Chiarot led the charge with a double-double, scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Teighan Stoukas and Mya Iriah contributed 11 points each.
Reine Ndome dished out 5 assists.
Vanessa Budimunda was a force in the paint, collecting 14 rebounds.
In all, the Lancers shot 75% from the free throw line and 30.3% from the floor.
HOW IT HAPPENED FRIDAY
The Lancers tipped off their weekend series on Friday in Sault Ste. Marie against the Algoma Thunderbirds. The opening quarter was tightly contested, with both teams trading baskets until the Lancers edged out a 16-13 lead. Windsor carried that momentum into the second quarter, outscoring the Thunderbirds 16-9 to take a 33-22 advantage into halftime.
After the break, the blue and gold maintained control on both ends of the court, limiting Algoma to 7 points in the third quarter while adding 11 of their own. In the final frame, Windsor closed out the night in style, pouring in 21 points to cap off a dominant 64-40 victory.
SATURDAY STATS
Ndome paced the team with 12 points and 7 rebounds.
Leah Tate also hit double digit figures, marking 10 points and 5 rebounds.
Overall, the women went 34.9% from the field and 66.7% from the free throw line.
HOW IT HAPPENED SATURDAY
The Thunderbirds hit the court with a renewed energy on Saturday, flipping the script from the night before to take a 16-13 lead after the first quarter. But the Lancers responded in the second, erupting for 22 points to seize a 35-31 halftime lead.
Windsor kept up the pressure on in the third quarter, racking up 25 points while tightening their defensive grip to widen the gap. The Thunderbirds could not recover as the Lancers stayed consistent in the fourth, cruising to a 70-56 win and a weekend sweep over Algoma.

The women will remain on the road next weekend as they travel to Guelph. The blue and gold will tip off against the Gryphons on Friday, January 31 at 6:00pm.
