The Windsor Lancers men's and women's golf teams put on an impressive showing at the Gryphon Invitational in Guelph, Ont. on Monday, September 29 at Cutten Fields, with both teams placing second in the overall team standings.
The men's team put together a 294 combined score, with
Tyler Hurtubise leading the way with a 71 that put him in a three-way tie for the best individual score on the day.
Alek Mauro and
Jarrod Smith followed with a 73 and 75, respectively.
Nicholas Tanovich also hit a 75, while
Michael Berlingieri had an 84. As a team, the Lancers were just one stroke behind the Laurier Golden Hawks for first place, continuing their strong play from earlier in the weekend at the Laurier Invitational where they finished third.
The Lancer women improved on their seventh-place finish at the Waterloo Invitational earlier in the weekend as they scored a collective 241, four strokes behind first-place Guelph.
Marie Carunungan's 76 led the way, with Ela Harris also breaking 80 with a 79.
Lauren Purves (86) and
Kennedy Fremlin (88) followed close behind.
Carunungan's 76 tied her for third among all individuals in the women's tournament, and Harris placed sixth.
The Lancers are back in action in Windsor, Ont. next weekend as they host the Windsor Invitational at Ambassador Golf Club. Play will be held on both Saturday, Oct. 4 and Sunday, Oct. 5.
