The University of Windsor Lancers men's and women's golf teams hit the links on Saturday, Oct. 4 and Sunday, Oct. 5 as they hosted the Windsor Invitational at Ambassador Golf Club. The women finished second and the men finished third, with
Tyler Hurtubise scoring an impressive 61 on Sunday.
Hurtubise's ten-under 61 earned him second place in the tournament, just one stroke off the overall lead. The tournament-best performance saw him play a bogey-free round, including eight birdies and an eagle.
Alek Mauro finished fourth with a total score of 137, scoring a 69 and 68 on both days.
Nicholas Tanovich,
Jarrod Smith, and
Michael Berlingieri also contributed to the third-place effort. The Lancers combined for collective score of 579, and have now place in the Top 3 at three consecutive events.
The women earned a second-place finish in the tournament, marking their second time placing second in a week.
Kennedy Fremlin shot a 74 and 73 to place second overall individually, with the remainder of the Windsor A team placing in the Top 12:
Ella Harris placed 12
th, and Marie Cunningham ninth.
The Lancer women's B team also had an impressive showing, finishing fourth overall, led by
Vanessa Ardovini's sixth-place individual effort.
Lauren Purves followed close behind in seventh, and
Molly Harris rounded out the group.
The Lancers now set their sights on the OUA Championships in two weeks' time in Oshawa, Ont. Windsor will compete for the OUA title from Friday, Oct. 17 to Sunday, Oct. 19.
