The University of Windsor Lancers women's basketball team kicked off their OUA season on the road in North Bay, Ont., defeating the Nipissing Lakers 82-70 on Friday (Oct. 24) night.

Kali Grootenboer finished with a double-double, scoring 19 points and grabbing 11 rebounds, 10 of them on the defensive glass. Julia Chiarot led the Lancers in scoring with 21 points, going 7-of-11 from the field. Jade Hunte added a balanced performance with 10 points, four rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
GAME FLOW
Coming off an undefeated 4-0 preseason, Windsor set the tone early, building a 28-14 lead in the first quarter behind strong defense and rebounding, with scoring from Chiarot, Leah Tate, and Kaylee Williams.
The Lancers extended their lead in the second quarter with key contributions from Tate and Grootenboer, who dominated the boards and helped generate fast-break opportunities off defensive rebounds. Windsor went into halftime with a 47-30 advantage.
Windsor maintained control in the second half despite a push from Nipissing, with Hunte and Makenzie Fineman netting key baskets to keep the Lancers ahead. The Lakers attempted a late comeback but Windsor's early lead held firm.
