Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

McMullen's hat trick propels Lancers to 7-1 win

The University of Windsor Lancers men's hockey continued their early season success on home ice with a 7-1 win at the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex against the Waterloo Warriors on Saturday (Oct. 25) evening.

STATS
Keegan McMullen scored a hat trick to lead the Lancer offense, and now has seven goals in just five games this season. Colton Smith double dipped with two goals of his own, and the lone tallies were added by Aaron Shaw and Ray Hamlin. Logan Linklater and Matt McNamara each picked up three assists. Max Donoso was busy between the pipes, making 31 saves in the win.

Adamo Santia scored Waterloo's only goal. Goaltender Dan Murphy made 26 saves.

GAME FLOW
The Lancers scored early in the game, as McMullen opened the scoring by cashing in on his own rebound on the powerplay just over three minutes into the first period. Smith rifled a wrist shot under the bar four minutes later to double the Lancer lead that they would take into the intermission.

The second period scoring started the same way as the first, with McMullen finishing off a two-on-one with Ty Toews on the power play to make it 3-0 just 48 seconds into the frame. Aaron Shaw added another on a partial breakaway three minutes later. Waterloo got on the board midway through the period on a goal by Santia. McMullen completed the hat trick late in the period as he found himself all alone on a breakaway and put it home with a nice backhand-forehand move past Murphy. Smith finished off a Linklater pass for his second goal of the game before the period ended.

The only goal in the third period came off the stick of Ray Hamlin with ten minutes to play to make it 7-1 for the Lancers.
