The University of Windsor Lancers women's hockey team dropped the lone game of their weekend to the undefeated Ottawa Gee-Gees, 3-0 on Saturday (Oct. 25) night at Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex.
STATS
Both teams finished the night with 30 shots apiece. Windsor goaltender Rebecca Noble turned aside 26 in a strong effort. Despite generating chances, the Lancers were unable to convert on any of their four power-play opportunities and were held scoreless.
Ottawa goaltender Clara Genier picked up the 30-save shutout. Beatrice Bilodeau and Alex Ferguson each found the back of the net twice for the Gee-Gees.
GAME FLOW
Windsor came out strong, generating early chances and outshooting Ottawa 11–8 in the opening frame. Ottawa opened the scoring midway through the stanza when Beatrice Bilodeau capitalized off of a neutral-zone turnover. Lancers goaltender Rebecca Noble made several key stops to keep it close, but Windsor trailed 1–0 after one.
Ottawa doubled their lead just a minute into the second when Alex Ferguson buried a rebound, then added another midway through the period to make it 3–0. Penalty trouble hindered the Lancers rhythm, and despite a strong defensive effort, they entered the third still trailing by three.
Windsor pushed hard in the final period, outshooting Ottawa and generating quality power-play looks from Lerissa Stevenson, Amber Esterbrooks, and Teagan Pare but couldn't solve the Gee-Gees' goaltender. Bilodeau sealed the win with an empty-netter late to complete the 4–0 scoreline.
