Lancers top Marauders in Saturday showdown

The University of Windsor Lancers women's basketball team earned a strong 76–55 victory over the McMaster Marauders on Saturday (Nov. 15) at McMaster's Burridge Gymnasium in Hamilton, Ont. 

GAME FLOW
Windsor opened the night with energy, edging out a 23–20 lead after the first quarter before taking control of the game in the second. The Lancers outscored McMaster 25–12 in the frame, building a 48–32 advantage at halftime. Windsor maintained its momentum out of the break, holding the Marauders to just 10 points in the third quarter to extend the lead and keep McMaster from mounting a comeback. A steady fourth quarter closed out a composed wire-to-wire performance for the Lancers. 

Windsor's defensive pressure and depth were defining factors, forcing 21 McMaster turnovers and collecting 13 steals. The Lancers also finished with 40 total rebounds and 16 assists, while converting 15 free throws to help secure the win. 

STATS
Julia Chiarot led the way for the Lancers with 16 points, six rebounds, and three assists in an all-around effort. Kali Grootenboer delivered a dominant interior performance, posting 15 points, 11 rebounds, and four blocks on 7-of-14 shooting. Leah Tate added 11 points and five rebounds, and Jade Hunte contributed nine points off the bench, going a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. Teighan Stoukas anchored the backcourt with six assists and two steals. 

For McMaster, Tayler Scott paced the Marauders with 19 points and 10 rebounds, while Emily Frankovic added 11 points and nine boards. Teja McCormick chipped in with seven points on 3-of-3 shooting. 

UP NEXT
With the win, the Lancers improve to 6–2 in OUA regular season play, while the Marauders fall to 1–7 on the season. The Lancers are back on the court on Saturday, November 22 when they host the Western Mustangs at Toldo Lancer Centre.
