Five Lancers score double-digits in takedown of Western

The University of Windsor Lancers women's basketball team earned a strong 79–69 win over the Western Mustangs on Saturday (Nov. 22) afternoon in front of a passionate home crowd at the Toldo Lancer Centre.

Windsor and Western traded momentum through the opening half, with the Mustangs edging ahead 13–12 after the first quarter before the Lancers responded to take a 28–25 lead into halftime. The scoring pace picked up after the break, where Windsor's 29-point third quarter proved pivotal in creating separation. The Lancers maintained control in the fourth, closing out the game with a steady offensive finish.

Windsor's efficiency was a defining factor, shooting 47.7% from the field compared to Western's 35.5%, while also winning the rebounding battle 41–34. Although Western shot a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line, Windsor countered with stronger interior scoring and ball movement, recording 12 assists in the victory.

Third year forward Leah Tate led the Lancers offensively with 19 points, adding three rebounds and two steals. Kali Grootenboer delivered a standout performance in the paint with another double-double, her fifth consecutive, registering 16-points and 11-rebounds, and Julia Chiarot chipped in 15 points, five rebounds, and an assist. Off the bench, Jade Hunte contributed 11 points and nine boards, while Makenzie Fineman knocked down three triples for 10 points.

For Western, Paris Alexander paced the Mustangs with 19 points and six rebounds, while Natalie VanHeeswyk added 12 points off the bench. Guard Renee Armstrong filled the stat line with 10 points, six steals, and four assists.
