The University of Windsor Lancers men's hockey team exploded offensively on Saturday (Nov. 29) night at the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex, rolling past the York Lions in a dominant 10–3 victory. Windsor controlled the pace from start to finish, overwhelming York with sustained pressure, depth scoring, and a relentless forecheck.
STATS
Goaltenders Kyle Metson and Max Donoso combined for the win, with Donoso turning aside the majority of the shots faced over the first two periods. Offensively, the Lancers delivered one of their strongest performances of the season, generating more than forty shots and spreading their production throughout the lineup.
Johnny Ulicny led the way with a hat trick, while Tylin Hilbig added two goals of his own. Dylan Schives also struck twice while Aaron Shaw, Keegan McMullen, and Alex Cunningham each found the back of the net. Windsor's playmaking group contributed heavily as well, highlighted by multi-assist nights from Shaw, Ray Hamlin, Logan Linklater, and Ty Toews.
York's offense was paced by Brandon McCartney, who scored twice, and Owen Gilhula, who added a late third-period goal. The Lions used both goaltenders over the course of the night.
GAME FLOW
Windsor seized control early, striking multiple times in the opening frame and setting the tone with fast puck movement and strong pressure off the rush. Shaw opened the scoring early and Ulicny scored two of his three goals in the opening frame. The Lancers built a substantial 5-0 lead in the first period, with more goals coming from Schives and McMullen, as their forward depth continually generated high-quality scoring chances. York managed to respond late in the frame, but the Lions struggled to match Windsor's pace and execution.
The second period saw the Lancers extend their advantage, continuing to dictate possession while limiting York's time in the offensive zone. Windsor added several more goals through quick transitions and effective special teams to play, while York briefly cut into the lead with a goal of their own. Even with the Lions showing bursts of pushback, the Lancers carried clear momentum into the final period.
Windsor maintained its control in the third, adding to the lead early and further pulling away as their top contributors continued to connect, with Ulicny completing his hat trick five minutes into the final period off of a scramble play in the York crease. York added one more late in the frame, but the Lancers' offense remained the defining story as the home side closed out a decisive, confident 10-3 victory over the York Lions. Windsor's team speed, puck support, and consistent pressure created a steady wave of opportunities that the Lions couldn't contain.
