Women's volleyball splits final series of 2025 with Guelph

The University of Windsor Lancers women's volleyball team split their two-game weekend series in Guelph, Ont. against the Guelph Gryphons on Nov. 28-29, taking the win on Friday in four sets and dropping Saturday's contest in five sets.

FRIDAY
The Lancers earned a four-set victory over the Guelph Gryphons on Friday night, taking the match 25-21, 25-22, 23-25, 25-19 at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre in Guelph, Ont.

Windsor opened with steady offensive pressure, hitting .286 in the second set and closing the night with a .151 team attack percentage while holding Guelph to .103.

Leading the way for Windsor was Aliah Admans, who delivered 11 kills, two aces, and three total blocks for a team-high 15 points. Danika Scharff steered the attack with 31 assists and added eight aces and four block assists, finishing with a match-best 15.5 points. Aryn Markett chipped in nine kills and 15 digs, while Geneva Huisman and Jordyn Brearley combined for 14 kills and seven total blocks to anchor the front line.

Guelph matched Windsor in total kills (44–44) but struggled with errors, committing 12 reception errors and 30 attack errors. Jordan Vang and Maia Dan each produced 12 kills to pace the Gryphons, with Dan hitting a strong .360 on the night. Sloane Fortin added nine kills and two total blocks, while Maya Slavcev contributed 23 assists and a service ace.

Windsor outperformed Guelph at the service line with a 12–4 ace advantage and held the edge defensively at the net with 9.0 total blocks to Guelph's 7.0. 

SATURDAY
The Windsor Lancers fought hard but fell in five sets to the Guelph Gryphons on Saturday afternoon. Set scores for the match were 25-16, 17-25, 18-25, 25-14, 15-12.

On the court, outside hitter Aliah Admans led Windsor with a team-high 23.5 points, posting 21 kills, 10 errors on 55 attempts for a .200 hitting percentage, while adding 10 digs and five block assists. Libero Aryn Markett also contributed 12 digs and six kills, anchoring the Lancers' defense.

Guelph's balanced attack featured four players reaching double-digit points, led by Jordan Vang and Maia Dan with 16 points each. Vang recorded 14 kills, four errors, and a .345 hitting percentage, while Dan added 12 kills on 23 attempts with a .478 hitting percentage and 16 digs. Lexi Nicholson-Clarke and Brooke Preszcator each added 10 and 11.5 points, respectively, contributing both offensively and defensively.

UP NEXT
The Lancers now enter the winter break with a 7-3 (W-L) record in a five-way tie for second place in the OUA. Windsor returns to the Toldo Lancer Centre on Jan. 9-10 for a series against the York Lions.
