The University of Windsor Lancers women's volleyball team delivered two dominant performances this weekend (Jan. 9-10) as they defeated the York Lions in straight sets twice at the Toldo Lancer Centre as they resumed their OUA regular season following the winter break.
FRIDAY
The Lancers continued their strong run of play on Friday night, earning straight sets win over the York Lions at the Toldo Lancer Centre. Windsor closed out the match by scores of 25-18, 25-23, and 25-14.
Windsor set the tone early with consistent pressure from the service line and steady offence across all three sets. The Lions pushed back in the second, forcing a tight finish, but the Lancers responded with timely kills and solid blocking to regain momentum and pull away late.
Offensively,
Aliah Admans paced all players with 16.5 points, finishing with 16 kills on an efficient .538 hitting percentage.
Aryn Markett added eight kills, while
Raiya Millin chipped in with five kills and two service aces to keep York off balance.
Setter
Danika Scharff directed the Lancer attack with 24 assists, while also contributing four kills and a block. At the net, Windsor's defence made its presence felt, highlighted by
Geneva Huisman, who recorded three solo blocks as part of a strong team blocking effort.
SATURDAY
Windsor showcased a dominant performance on Saturday afternoon, sweeping the Lions in straight sets for the second time in less than 24 hours. Windsor secured the victory by set scores of 25-14, 25-14, and 25-21 to continue their strong form in OUA play.
From the opening serve, the Lancers controlled the tempo with aggressive serving and balanced offensive production. Windsor jumped out to early leads in the first two sets and never looked back. York showed more resistance in the third, trimming the gap late, but Windsor remained composed and closed out the match behind steady execution and timely points.
Aliah Admans led all players offensively, posting 18.5 points on 15 kills while hitting at a strong .385 clip. She also added three service aces to keep pressure on the York receive.
Jordyn Brearley provided solid support with six kills, while
Elle O'Connell was flawless on the attack, recording seven kills without an error for a .467 hitting percentage.
Danika Scharff orchestrated the Lancer offence with 28 assists and contributed across the board with three kills, an ace, and three total blocks. Windsor was strong at the net throughout the match, finishing with 10 total blocks, as Scharff and
Hope Simpson helped anchor the defensive effort.
