The University of Windsor Lancers women's hockey team dropped a difficult 4-3 shootout loss to the Carleton Ravens on Friday (Nov. 7) night at the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex, after the visitors stormed back from a three-goal deficit to steal the win.
STATS
The Lancers scored three goals on 30 shots, showing strong efficiency in their offensive chances. Bridget Cameron had an impressive outing with a goal and an assist, while Keana McKibbin chipped in with two assists, helping drive the Lancers' early offensive momentum. Goaltender Ella Willoughby was a standout between the pipes, making 34 saves to keep Windsor in contention through regulation and overtime.
GAME FLOW
The Lancers started strong, controlling play early and generating quality scoring chances in the opening frame. Their persistence paid off midway through the first period when Lily Crumpton netted her first career OUA goal, giving Windsor the early lead. Just two minutes later, Teagan Paré picked up the puck in the neutral zone and led a two-on-one rush into the Ravens end, sniping a shot past the Carleton goaltender to double the Lancers advantage. Windsor continued to press and added a third unanswered goal on the power play by Bridget Cameron before the second intermission, taking a commanding 3-0 lead into the final period.
The third period saw the momentum swing in favor of the Ravens. Carleton broke through midway through the frame with a shorthanded breakaway goal by Kennedy Vickers, cutting the deficit to 3-1. The Ravens kept the pressure on, and moments later Payton Miller capitalized on a loose puck off a scramble in the corner to bring the Ravens within one. With under two minutes to play, Erica Buckley made a dazzling move through the Lancer defense and buried the equalizer to tie the game at three, forcing overtime.
Both teams traded chances in the extra frame, but neither could find the game-winner, sending the contest to a shootout. Carleton goaltender Kaitlyn Langille stood tall in the deciding frame, making several key saves, and sealed the Ravens comeback on a dramatic glove stop on the final Windsor attempt.
