The University of Windsor Lancers men's hockey team came up just short on Saturday (Nov. 8) night at the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex, falling 2–1 in overtime to the Lakehead Timberwolves. The loss came after the Lancers split a two-game road trip in Toronto last weekend that featured an explosive win against the TMU Bold and a shutout defeat to the Toronto Varsity Blues.
STATS
Windsor outshot the Timberwolves 36–27 but couldn't convert their chances. Goaltender Max Donoso made 25 saves in the loss, while Lakehead's Carson Cherepak stopped 35 shots to earn the win. Keegan McMullen scored the lone goal for Windsor, assisted by Stef Dobrich and Aaron Shaw. Lakehead got scoring contributions from Wil Murphy and Olivier Pouliot, with Pouliot's OT goal deciding the contest.
GAME FLOW
Windsor struck first late in the opening period with Keegan McMullen converting a pass from Stef Dobrich and Aaron Shaw to give the Lancers a 1–0 lead heading into the second period.
Despite controlling much of the play and outshooting Lakehead throughout the game, Windsor was unable to extend their lead. The Timberwolves tied the game early in the third period on a tally by Will Murphy. In overtime, Lakehead struck quickly again, as Olivier Pouliot found the back of the net on a wrist shot off the rush just 39 seconds into the extra frame to hand the Lancers a tough 2–1 defeat.
