Lancers Split Weekend on Home Ice

The Windsor Lancers women's hockey team was back in action again this weekend at the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex.

The blue and gold hosted the Brock Badgers on Friday night where they were able to overcome the Badgers with a 5-1 win in Windsor.

Meanwhile on Saturday the Lancers dropped a 2-1 decision to the Guelph Gryphons on Saturday afternoon.

WEEKEND STATS

Elizabeth Coleman, Maggie Peterson, Keana McKibbin, Jaden Cherry, and Makayla Mailhot all scored on Friday night while Maggi DeWolf-Russ scored the lone goal on Saturday.

McKibbin and Elisa Benjamin each had two assists during Friday's win while DeWolf-Russ picked up two assists on Friday night as well.

Rebecca Noble had 30 saves earning the win over Brock on Friday meanwhile Cadence Petitclerc made 37 saves in Saturday's loss to Guelph.

FRIDAY GAME FLOW

Brock opened the scoring at 9:18 into the contest with Sydney Hood scoring for the Badgers to take a 1-0 lead up on the Lancers.

Windsor responded in the second period at 13:01 on the power play when Coleman scored from McKibbin and Sierra Moreau to tie the game at 1-1.

The Lancers would grab a 2-1 lead with Peterson's goal at 18:50 of the second period from DeWolf-Russ and McKibbin.

In the third period the Lancers scoring streak continued with McKibbin first finding the back of the Brock net at 4:26 from DeWolf-Russ and Coleman before Cherry's goal came at 4:43 from Ilena Ricker-Singh and Benjamin to make it a 4-1 Lancer lead.

Windsor would add one more at 6:40 of the third period with Mailhot netting one past Brock's netminder Kennedy Lonson from Cherry and Benjamin to make it 5-1 Lancers which held true until the final buzzer to earn the win in Windsor on Friday night.

SATURDAY GAME FLOW

Guelph scored very early in the contest at 19 seconds into the game with Katherine Heard's first goal of the game coming then to take a 1-0 lead on the Lancers.

The Gryphons doubled up their lead in the second period at 1:19 when Heard struck early again to take a 2-0 advantage on the Lancers.

DeWolf-Russ would get one past Guelph's goalie Martina Fedel at exactly 6 minutes into the third period to trim the deficit down to one from Peterson's pass to respond to

the Gryphons but in the end it would not be enough as Guelph edged Windsor 2-1 not letting another get by them down the stretch.

The Lancers now have one more game on the 2024-25 OUA regular season which will take place next on Saturday February 15th at 4PM at the CPRC.
