Lancers edged by visiting Gaels on Senior's Day

The Windsor Lancer women's hockey team hosted the Queen's Gaels on Saturday in their final regular season outing for the 2024-25 calendar season at the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex.  
 
The Lancers were edged by the Gaels 3-2 falling on home ice on what was Seniors Night at the CPRC which honoured multiple graduating players for the blue and gold in the annual pregame ceremony before the puck dropped.
 
GAME STATS
Maggi DeWolf-Russ and Darcee Hall each scored for the blue and gold while Maggie Peterson had two assists in the contest.
 
Cadence Petitclerc made 20 saves between the pipes for the Lancers in the loss.
 
GAME FLOW
The game's opening goal came off a Lancer's stick with DeWolf-Russ lighting the red goal light lamp at 3:01 of the first frame from Keana McKibbin and Peterson to take a 1-0 lead on Queen's.
 
Logan Briggs responded for the Gaels at 10:11 to tie the game up at one goal apiece 1-1.
 
Windsor earned a second go-ahead lead at 2:17 in the second period with Hall scoring one past the Queen's goaltender Emma Tennant from Peterson and Leah Gervais to make it 2-1 Lancers.
 
Queen's capitalized on a power play at 12:11 of the second period from Alyson Reeves to make it 2-2 stalemating the contest at a deadlock.
 
Kelsey Dunn became the hero of the game for the Gaels with her unassisted tally getting past Petitclerc at 13:15 of the second frame to grab the lead from the Lancers at 3-2 which held firm until the final buzzer as neither goaltender surrendered any further goals after that and with that the Lancers lost their last game of the regular season.
 
UP NEXT
The Lancers will now turn their attention to the post-season as they have qualified for OUA playoffs play-in game on Thursday February 20th vs the York Lions at the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex for a 7:30PM puck drop.
