The Windsor Lancers women's hockey team found a way to get the job done twice this past weekend during a home-and-home series against the Western Mustangs on Friday and Saturday night respectively.
On Friday the blue and gold traveled up to London to play the purple and white where they came away from the Forest City with a 2-1 victory over Western before travelling back down the 401 to Windsor for Saturday's rematch where the Lancers were able to emerge victorious yet again with a hard fought 1-0 victory over the visiting Mustangs.
WEEKEND STATS
Maggi DeWolf-Russ scored two goals this weekend including one in Friday's road contest and another on Saturday's follow-up rematch to lead the charge this weekend.
Jaden Cherry also managed to light the goal lamp on Friday night with a game-tying goal.
Teagan Pare also had a good weekend the Lancers to score having picked up an assist in each outing to cap off a two-point weekend.
In net, Rebecca Noble earned the win on Friday with her 20 save performance while on Saturday Cadence Petitclerc backstopped the Lancers to victory with her outstanding 34 save performance to earn the shutout and blank Western in Windsor.
FRIDAY GAME FLOW
Western opened the scoring at 15:03 in the first period on the powerplay with Janique LaBossiere's goal to make it a 1-0 Mustangs lead up on the Lancers.
No goals would come again until later in the third period at 9:26 when Cherry found a way to get a shot past Western's goaltender Ella Brabrook to make it tied game at 1-1.
DeWolf-Russ would net her first game winner on the weekend at 15:41 of the third period from Emily Eikelboom to give the Lancers the go-ahead goal and make it 2-1.
Noble would live up to her name in net with her noble performance that clinched her team their first victory on the weekend to head back home with a 2-1 win at Western.
SATURDAY GAME FLOW
No goals came in the contest until the third period as both goaltenders shined in their respective creases with Western's Brooke Vaccari turning aside 21 shots faced before surrendering the game's lone goal and Petitclerc standing strong between the pipes for Windsor. DeWolf-Russ managed to notch her second game-winning goal on the weekend at 1:31 of the third period to give the Lancers a 1-0 lead hatching open the goose eggs on the scoreboard.
That goal would go on to be the game's only goal with Petitclerc stopping everything on the night to earn a 1-0 win in Windsor at the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex.

The Lancers will be back in action on Friday February 7th facing off against the Brock Badgers for a 7:30PM puck drop at the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex. Windsor will also host the Guelph Gryphons on Saturday February 8th at 4PM inside the CPRC.
