The Windsor Lancers kicked off their 2025 OUA home schedule Saturday night with a high-energy battle against the Guelph Gryphons. Despite a fast start and strong crowd at Alumni Stadium, the Lancers could not hold on, falling 31–17 as Guelph earned their first win of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Windsor struck quickly in the first quarter as quarterback Nick Dimovski hit Kareame Cotton for a 45-yard touchdown. On Guelph's next drive just over a minute later, Windsor linebacker Dylan Simpson intercepted the ball and returned the ball 46 yards for a pick six to give the Lancers a 14–0 lead. The defence held firm through the quarter, with tensions rising as both teams traded hard hits.
Windsor's defence stayed sharp early in the second quarter, but Guelph gained momentum midway through. A big pass play set up their first touchdown, cutting the lead to 14–7. A blocked field goal by Simpson kept Windsor ahead at halftime.
Windsor opened the second half with a 37-yard field goal y Brady Lidster to go up 17-3, but Guelph answered with a 50-yard touchdown pass and a late-quarter field goal to tie it 17–17.
Guelph took their first lead in the fourth with a 68-yard touchdown reception. Windsor's final drive stalled on 3rd-and-12, and on the next play, Guelph's Isiah Smith broke free for a 63-yard TD run to seal the 31–17 win.
