The University of Windsor Lancers men's volleyball team is back in the win column with a pair of wins against the York Lions at the Toldo Lancer Centre this weekend (Jan. 9-10), both coming in straight sets.
FRIDAY
The Lancers played a strong game on Friday night, earning a straight sets victory over the York Lions at the Toldo Lancer Centre. Windsor controlled the match from start to finish, closing out the win by scores of 25-18, 25-14, and 25-21.
Windsor set the tone early with an aggressive serving game and efficient offence, jumping out to early leads in each set. The Lancers were particularly dominant in the second, limiting York to a .143 hitting percentage while pulling away comfortably. York made its strongest push in the third set, but Windsor responded with steady side-outs and timely defensive plays to secure the sweep.
Offensively, Gustavo Siqueira led all players with 13.0 points, recording 11 kills on 22 attempts while adding three blocks. Darian Koskie was also a major factor, finishing with nine kills on an efficient .500 hitting percentage, along with two service aces. Kaden Reid contributed a strong all-around performance with six kills, three aces, and nine points.
Markus Law-Heese guided the Lancer attack with 28 assists, while hitting an impressive .800 with four kills of his own. Windsor was solid across the board defensively, highlighted by Anthony Ivanovski's seven points, including four total blocks, as part of a strong team effort at the net.
SATURDAY
Windsor kept their momentum rolling on Saturday afternoon, sweeping the York Lions in straight sets. The Lancers were dominant for most of the match, earning the victory by scores of 25-11, 25-23, and 25-17.
The blue and gold came out sharp in the opening set, applying immediate pressure with strong serving and a highly efficient attack to build a commanding lead. Windsor hit an impressive .692 in the first frame, holding York to a negative hitting percentage and cruising to a decisive win. The second set proved to be the most competitive, as the Lions found their rhythm offensively and pushed Windsor late, but the Lancers responded with timely kills and solid defensive play to edge out the 25-23 set. Windsor closed the match confidently in the third, re-establishing control and never allowing York to mount a sustained run.
Darian Koskie led the Lancers offensively with a standout performance, finishing with 12 kills on just 14 attempts for an exceptional .857 hitting percentage, while also contributing five block assists for a match-high 14.5 points. Gustavo Siqueira added a strong all-around effort with 10 kills, four total blocks, and 14 points, while Anthony Ivanovski was dominant at the net, recording six kills on six swings and three block assists.
Setter Markus Law-Heese directed the Windsor offence efficiently, racking up 32 assists while adding two kills and three total blocks. Conaire Taub also made his presence felt with 7.5 points, including four kills, two service aces, and three block assists, as Windsor outperformed York in every phase of the game.

With the wins, the Lancers improved to 10-2 in OUA play as they continue to build momentum as the season progress into the second half.
