The University of Windsor Lancers women's basketball team fell 73–57 to the Guelph Gryphons on Saturday (Jan. 10) night. Windsor kept the game within reach early, but Guelph steadily built momentum across all four quarters to secure the home victory.
GAME FLOW
The Gryphons held a narrow edge throughout the opening half, leading 33–27 at the break after outscoring Windsor 18–15 in the first quarter and 15–12 in the second. Guelph continued to apply pressure in the second half, extending the lead in the third quarter before closing out the game by outscoring the Lancers 21–17 in the fourth to seal the win.
Shooting efficiency and free-throw production proved to be the difference. Windsor shot 28.8% from the field and 23.8% from three-point range, while Guelph finished at 32.3% overall and an efficient 45.0% from beyond the arc. The Gryphons also capitalized at the free-throw line, converting 24-of-32 attempts (75.0%) compared to Windsor's 14-of-23 (60.9%). Guelph held a 45–37 rebounding advantage, while both teams were active defensively, combining for 33 steals.
STATS
Kali Grootenboer led the Lancers with a strong all-around performance, recording a game-high 18 points and a team-leading 17 rebounds along with five blocks. Julia Chiarot and Leah Tate each added 13 points, with Chiarot contributing four steals and three assists. Jade Hunte provided energy off the bench, finishing with eight points, eight rebounds, and three assists.
For Guelph, Hannah Bourdon led all scorers with 21 points while adding 12 rebounds and seven steals. Christina Morra contributed 18 points and 12 rebounds, and Stephanie Galikowski chipped in 14 points, shooting 4-of-5 from three-point range.

With the loss, Windsor moves to 10–3 on the season, while Guelph improves to 12–2. The Lancers will look to bounce back in their next contest for OUA play, with their next game scheduled for next week against Waterloo Warriors on the road.
