Men's Soccer falls to Brock on Alumni Weekend

The University of Windsor Lancers men's soccer team battled back to tie the match in the second half but ultimately fell 2-1 to the Brock Badgers on Sunday afternoon. 
 
Brock opened the scoring in the 23rd minute before Windsor's Issam Hassoun converted a penalty kick in the second half to level the match. However, the Badgers scored a late winner in the final minutes to secure the victory.  
 
STATS 
Issam Hassoun scored Windsor's lone goal, converting from the penalty spot in the second half. Ottavio Liburdi had two first-half penalty opportunities but was denied on both occasions by Neskovic. 
 
Luca Vano made several important saves for Windsor, including stops on attempts from Tiago Pereira, Serj Kaloustian and Noah Del Vecchio. Brock's Arikan finished with a goal and an assist, setting up Del Vecchio's late game-winner. 
 
GAME FLOW 
Brock opened the scoring when Alp Eren Arikan found the back of the net. Windsor responded with several chances, including two penalty kicks from Ottavio Liburdi, but Brock goalkeeper Nikola Neskovic made saves on both attempts to preserve the lead heading into halftime. 
 
The Lancers continued to push after the break and found their equalizer in the 71st minute when Issam Hassoun calmly converted a penalty kick to make it 1-1. 
 
With the match appearing headed toward a draw, Brock regained the lead in the 89th minute as Noah Del Vecchio headed home a cross from Arikan to secure the 2-1 victory. 
 
 
UP NEXT 
The Lancers will look to bounce back in their next OUA matchup against the Algoma Thunderbirds at home on Friday, October 9th at 8:15pm for Seniors Day.
