Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Senior night sees Lancers win big against Algoma

The University of Windsor Lancers women's basketball team earned a decisive 72–46 victory over the Algoma Thunderbirds on Saturday (Feb. 14) evening at the Toldo Lancer Centre, using a dominant second half to pull away and secure one more win on home court and winning the OUA West division in the process. Windsor controlled the tempo for most of the contest, holding Algoma to single-digit scoring in two quarters on route to the win.

This final game of the regular season marked senior night for the Lancers, in which graduating players Kaylee Williams, Kira Atherley, and Julia Chiarot were honoured.

GAME FLOW
Windsor set the tone early, jumping out to a 15–9 lead after the first quarter before breaking the game open in the second. The Lancers poured in 25 points in the second frame while limiting the Thunderbirds to 13, taking a commanding 40–22 advantage into halftime. Algoma showed some push in the third quarter, narrowly outscoring Windsor 13–10, but the Lancers quickly responded in the fourth, erupting for 22 points to close out the 26-point victory.

Defense and rebounding once again proved to be key. Windsor held Algoma to just 32.1% shooting from the field and 14.3% from three-point range, while forcing 20 turnovers. The Lancers were active defensively with 13 steals and three blocks, and they controlled the glass with a 39–29 rebounding advantage, including 11 offensive boards that led to second-chance opportunities. Windsor also capitalized at the free-throw line, shooting an efficient 82.4%.
