Chiarot's clutch fourth quarter powers Lancers to quarterfinal win

The University of Windsor Lancers women's basketball team defeated the Brock Badgers by a score of 83-77 in an OUA quarterfinal matchup that came down to the final minutes, with a key three-pointer by Julia Chiarot being the icing on the cake as part of a big fourth quarter by the senior guard.

GAME FLOW
Windsor opened the game with energy, taking a 24–20 lead after the first quarter. Brock responded in the second frame, outscoring the Lancers 21–18 to narrow the margin to 42–41 at halftime, with a Jade Hunte buzzer-beater layup giving the Lancers the one-point edge after twenty minutes. The two teams continued to battle in a tightly contested third quarter, with Windsor edging the Badgers 22–21 to carry a 64–62 lead into the final period. In the fourth, the Lancers showed composure down the stretch, scoring 19 points and coming up with key defensive stops to hold off Brock and secure the six-point postseason victory.

Windsor controlled the glass throughout the contest, finishing with 41 rebounds, including 16 on the offensive end that created valuable second-chance opportunities. The Lancers also forced 15 Brock turnovers and knocked down nine three-pointers, while shooting 70 percent from the free-throw line to help close out the win. 

STATS
Kali Grootenboer led the way for Windsor with a dominant double-double, recording 18 points and 16 rebounds, including six offensive boards. Julia Chiarot delivered a game-high 21 points, including 11 in the fourth quarter and a clutch three-pointer with under a minute to play to give the Lancers a crucial cushion to close out the game. The Hamilton, Ont. native connected on four shots from beyond the arc and added nine rebounds. Leah Tate contributed 17 points with four three-pointers of her own, while Jade Hunte provided a strong spark off the bench with 11 points, four rebounds, and three steals. Mya Iriah added eight points and a team-high four assists in a steady all-around effort. 

Madalyn Weinert paced the Badgers with 27 points and 13 rebounds. Ava Stranges added 25 points, including three three-pointers, and Jamie Addy chipped in 13 points and three steals.
