The University of Windsor Lancers men's soccer team fell 5-1 to the No. 2 nationally ranked York Lions on Friday night at York Lions Stadium in Toronto, Ont.

York came out with early pressure, forcing Windsor goalkeeper Nicholas Zanin into saves on attempts from Marco Sciortino and Ryan Robinson inside the opening 15 minutes. The Lions continued to threaten, with Christian Zeppieri hitting the crossbar, then converting a penalty kick in the 19th minute to give York a 1-0 advantage.
Windsor responded immediately, with Matthew Chimienti finding the back of the net just 90 seconds later to bring the Lancers level. The Lancers continued to battle, earning their first corner kick of the night in the 25th minute. York maintained its offensive pressure, however, with Anthony Morano forcing a defensive stop from Domenik Cacaj before the Lions earned another penalty kick in the 34th minute. Zeppieri converted again to restore York's lead at 2-1. Windsor continued to look for another equalizer, but York held the slight advantage into halftime.
The Lions extended their lead just under a minute into the second half when Matthew Fischer scored to make it 3-1. Windsor looked to respond, but York continued to create chances and held the Lancers off the scoresheet. York added two more goals late in the match, with Zeppieri completing his hat trick in the 81st minute before Fischer scored his second of the night in the 88th minute to make it 5-1.

Matthew Chimienti scored Windsor's lone goal of the night, recording his first goal of the 2026 OUA season. Windsor recorded four shots overall, with three coming in the second half.
York outshot Windsor 11-4 overall and held a 7-3 advantage in the opening half. The Lions controlled the corner-kick battle 10-2, while Windsor committed three fouls compared to the two by York.
Lancers goalkeeper Nicholas Zanin made four saves for Windsor while playing all 90 minutes. York goalkeeper Michael Williams recorded two saves to earn the victory. York's Christian Zeppieri led the Lions with a hat trick, scoring twice from the penalty spot in the opening half. Matthew Fischer added the other two goals for the Lions.
Windsor drops to 1-4-0 in OUA conference play with the loss, while York continues their perfect record of 5-0-0 with the win at home.
