The University of Windsor Lancers women's soccer team fell 2-1 on Friday (Sep. 18) evening at Alumni Stadium against the No. 6 nationally ranked Guelph Gryphons.
GAME FLOW
Guelph brought a fight to Alumni Field with heavy possession of the ball early in the game. With a couple corner kicks made by the Gryphons,
Izzy Barrette made a couple of great saves to keep the ball out of the net.
The Gryphons continued the offensive pressure, leading to Olivia Rizakos scoring the first goal of the game 26 minutes in. Windsor reacted with more possession as the teams headed to halftime.
Olivia Corazza regained a share of the OUA goal scoring lead following a penalty kick goal in stoppage time.
Coming out of halftime, the Gryphons took control of the ball once again, taking multiple shots towards the Lancer goal. However, with multiple saves by Barrette, Windsor was able to keep the scoreboard tied. The Gryphons took the lead back at the 76 minute mark as Rebecca Draeger scored.
Windsor pressured to tie the game in the last 15 minutes but ultimately fell 2-1.

The Gryphons had the upper hand with 13 shots and eight shots on goal compared to the Lancers three shots and two on goal. Windsor goalkeeper
Izzy Barrette made six saves and Guelph's Jo Mazier made one stop.
Guelph recorded seven corner kicks, while the Lancers recorded two throughout the game.
Windsor's Olivia Corrazza recorded the lone Lancer goal of the game. Guelph's Olivia Rizakos and Rebecca Draeger each recorded a goal and assist for the Gryphons.
Windsor sits at a 2-4-1 record Guelph moves up to first in the OUA West Division at 4-0-0.
