Windsor Lancers

The Lancer football team are above .500 for the first time this season following a 54-0 victory over the Toronto Varsity Blues Saturday (Sept. 26) afternoon at Alumni Stadium.

Game Flow
The Lancers played an up-tempo, complimentary style of football between offense, defense, and special teams all afternoon, initiated by a five-yard rushing touchdown by QB Kareame Cotton and a 17-yard receiving score by tight end Matteo Trifon 10:16 into the first quarter. 

Defensively, linebacker Marco Piccioni and sociology student Braxton Johnson finished the first quarter with a three-yard tackle for loss and a seven-yard sack before Tilbury, Ont. native Dylan Simpson began the second quarter with a fumble recovery. Windsor added four touchdowns in the second quarter, highlighted by Colby Ginn's 33-yard backwards diving catch 3:20 in (see above).

In the second half, the blue and gold added a team safety, a third-quarter score by Trifon, and a field goal by Odette School of Business freshman Alex Patrinos; furthermore, fourth-year business student Ahmad Taylor, third-year kinesiology student Alijah Metz, and Piccioni combined for three tackles for loss. 

Stats
Faculty of Human Kinetics quarterback Kareame Cotton, the reigning OUA Athlete of the Week, was the best player on the field again for the blue and gold, posting a 92.3% completion percentage (24/26), a career-best six passing touchdowns, a game-high 370 yards, and one rushing score. His six passing touchdowns tied Austin Kennedy (2x) and Dave Pickett (1975) for the most passing scores by a Lancers QB in one game. 

Hometown fellow Odette student Matteo Trifon led Windsor's receiving attack with seven receptions, 62 yards, and three touchdowns, while Human Kinetics master's student Colby Ginn added five catches, 94 yards, and two scores of his own. Trifon's three receiving scores tied a single-game Lancer record with six other players. 

Kicking wise, freshman Alex Patrinos made six extra pointers and one field goal while sophomore Ben Flynn added an extra point of his own right before halftime.

Windsor will host York at home on Sat., Oct. 3 at 7:00 p.m. as part of Alumni Weekend and Senior's Day before heading to Queen's on Sat., Oct. 10 to take on the Gaels for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff.
