#9 Lancers defeat Guelph, tie York; finish second overall in OUA West

Windsor receives a bye in first round of the OUA Playoffs

The #9 ranked Lancer Men's Soccer team completed their impressive 2009 regular season with a 109 victory over the Guelph Gryphons 1-0 on Sunday on Alumni Field.

With the victory, Windsor finishes the regular season with an 8-1-5 record and only a point back in the standings behind the #2 ranked York Lions.

Windsor will now receive a bye in the first round of the OUA playoffs and will host the highest remaining seed on Saturday at Alumni Field. More playoff information will be released later in the week.

Earlier in the weekend, the Lancers played York to a scoreless draw in the battle for first place in their conference.

On Sunday, Mike Watson scored the game's only goal in the first half to give the Lancers another impressive victory to cap their regular season.

Dan Mendonca recorded his 10th shutout on the season, a new school record as he preserved the victory for his team.

On Saturday against York, the match was another well balanced game with both teams applying offensive pressure on each other throughout the contest.

The Lancers pressed hard in the second half in hopes of their second victory over York on the season, but were unable to find the back of the net.

Dan Mendonca had another strong game and added another shutout to his impressive resume this year.
