#7 Lancers set to host Marauders in OUA Quarter-Finals this Saturday

The Lancer Men's Soccer team, ranked #7 in Canada, will host the McMaster Marauders this Saturday afternoon in the OUA Quarter-Finals at University of Windsor Stadium.

After finishing the regular season with an 8-1-5 record and in second place in the OUA West Division, the Lancers received a bye through the first round of the playoffs this past Wednesday.

Windsor's final weekend of the regular season ended with a tie against the first place and #2 ranked York Lions and a 1-0 win over the Guelph Gryphons on Sunday. The Lancers are the only team to have beaten York this season, as they earned an impressive 4-3 victory on the road in Toronto earlier in the year.

Incredibly, the Lancers are currently riding a six-game shutout streak that dates back to October 7th.
With six straight shutouts, Lancer goaltender Dan Mendonca has a CIS leading ten regular season shutouts, which also set a new school record.

The previous record was held by Brad Harwood who had eight shutouts. Harwood set the record in 2006, the last year Windsor hosted an OUA playoff game.

The Marauders come to Windsor after placing fifth overall in the regular season standings. They advanced in the playoffs after defeating the Guelph Gryphons 3-2 in overtime on Wednesday night in the first round of action.

In their previous two meetings this season, the Lancers shutout the Marauders on both occasions. The winner of Saturday's game will also advance to the OUA Final Four next weekend, November 7-8, 2009.

Game time is set for 2pm on Saturday, October 31st on Alumni Field.

Admission is free of charge, and everyone is encouraged to come out and support the Lancers in what is expected to be a thrilling day of soccer action.
