The Department of Athletics will be hosting Coats for our Community Night this Friday evening as part of the Lancer Basketball doubleheader vs. Queen's University.
On Friday night, the Lancers will be accepting coat donations for local families in need as part of an initiative to support the Unemployment Help Centre's Coats Campaign.
While any size coat in good condition will be accepted, winter coats for children are highly desired.
If you don't have a coat to donate, the Athletic Department will also be accepting hats and mittens and other miscellaneous winter wear for local families.
Every person that donates a coat that evening will receive a coupon booklet compliments of McDonald's Restaurants, a sponsor of the evening.
The Lancer women play Queen's at 6pm while the Lancer men will battle the Gaels at 8pm at the St. Denis Centre. Total coat donations will be announced later that evening at halftime of the men's game.
On the court, both Lancer Basketball teams are off to great starts, with the Lancer women sitting at 4-0 and the Lancer men at 3-1.
Coach Vallee's squad has moved up to #2 in the country and will look to build on that momentum with a strong weekend of play against Queen's and RMC.
Rookie post
Jessica Clemencon had a strong weekend in Ottawa as she recorded 26 points in the victory over the Gee Gees on Saturday night. They'll be looking for more strong play from her this weekend as they try and extend their winning streak.
On the men's side, Coach Oliver's squad remains at #6 in the nation after a split in their weekend series against Carleton and Ottawa.
After a strong opening half against the #1 ranked team in the country on Friday night, the Lancers faded down the stretch in their eventual loss to Carleton.
Against Ottawa the next night, they responded with a strong team effort that resulted in a hard fought 80-77 overtime victory over the Gee Gees to move them to 3-1.
Windsor will get a tough test this Friday night against Queen's as they feature one of the top players in the country in Mitch Leger. The Gaels post plays inside and outside as well as any big man in the CIS and he will need to be contained by the Lancer defense if they want to come out on top.
Tip-off against the Queen's Gaels on Friday night is set for 6pm and 8pm at the St. Denis Centre. They'll follow that with a match-up on Saturday against RMC at 1pm and 3pm.
