Lancers split weekend series with UOIT at Windsor Arena

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
The Lancer Men's Hockey team split a home series against the UOIT Ridgebacks this past weekend at Windsor Arena.

On Friday, led by Jonathan Sciacca's three points, the Lancers shutout the visiting Ridgebacks 3-0.

A strong fore-check by Windsor generated the majority of the offence as the Lancers managed to get 42 shots on net against UOIT.

Sciacca scored his first of the season just eight minutes into the first period to give Windsor a 1-0 edge.

The Lancers continued to lead by one late in the second when Kyle Lang capitalized on a Windsor power play to put the home team up by two heading into the third period.

Sciacca secured the win for the Lancers with his second goal of the game in the dying minutes of the final frame for the 3-0 victory.

The line of Kyle Nishizaki, Sciacca and Josh Gaynor combined for seven points on the night, while Jim Watt made 35 saves for his first shutout of the season.

On Saturday afternoon, the Lancers were defeated 4-2 to the visiting Ridgebacks to split the weekend series.

UOIT got off to a fast start in the first period as they scored three goals on their first five shots to drive Jim Watt from the net and gain the 3-0 lead.

After the Ridgebacks added another in the second period to go ahead 4-0, the Lancers came alive in the third period as Kyle Nishizaki and Danny Anger each scored for Windsor to cut the lead to two.

Nishizaki's goal came on the power play off of a nice cycle with Brett Vandehogen and Mark Thorburn, as he walked out from the side of the net and backhanded it top shelf.

Kyle Tront and Scott Gillis assisted on Anger's goal which came off a bounce off a skate and into the net past UOIT goaltender Jason Guy.

That would be all the scoring in the contest as the Ridgebacks held on for the 4-2 victory.

The Lancers will take to the road for their final two games before the Christmas break. They face the Western Mustangs on Thursday night at Thompson Arena, and the Waterloo Warriors on Saturday afternoon at the Columbia Ice field.
