Box Score The Windsor Lancers Women's Basketball team defeated the Lakehead Thunderwolves 68-61 on Friday night at the St. Denis Centre.
With the victory, the #3 ranked Lancers move to 14-1 in conference play and hold a three game lead over the Western Mustangs atop the OUA West Division standings.
On Friday night, the Lancers came out hot against the visiting Thunderwolves as they built an early 10-point lead to go ahead 22-12 after one quarter.
Lakehead fought their way back into the game in the second quarter, as some strong outside shooting from Chiaki Nakamura helped to erase the 10-point lead. The Lancers lacked some focus at the defensive end as the Thunderwolves tied the game up at 39-39 at the break.
In the second half, Windsor re-focused and started to take command of the game again with some solid transition offense.
The Lancers turned a six-point third quarter lead into a 15-point advantage in the fourth quarter as they cruised to the 68-61 victory.
In the win,
Shavaun Reaney led all scorers with 19 points and 6 steals.
Raelyn Prince added 13 points and 6 rebounds while
Jessica Clemencon finished with 11 points and 5 rebounds.
Windsor will be back in action on Saturday night as they once again host the Lakehead Thunderwolves in game two of the weekend doubleheader. Tip-off is set for 6pm.
Tomorrow night's game is also part of Breast Cancer Awareness Weekend as the Department of Athletics will be selling special pink Lancer t-shirts at the game with proceeds going to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
