Box Score The Windsor Lancers Women's Basketball team completed the weekend sweep of the Lakehead Thunderwolves as they earned the 61-60 victory on Saturday night at the St. Denis Centre.
With the victory, the #3 nationally ranked Lancers move to 15-1 in conference play.
On Saturday night, the Lancers jumped out to another early lead as
Raelyn Prince scored the game's first four points in the opening minute.
The Lancer defense held the Thunderwolves to only 3 of 13 shooting in the opening quarter as they took a 20-10 lead after one.
In the second quarter, Windsor started to use their size inside to take over the game.
Jessica Clemencon converted on a number of second chance points to held her team maintain their lead.
Lakehead was able to cut the lead to six points late in the quarter but that was as close as they would get, as they trailed 30-23 at the break.
The third quarter went back and forth as both teams battled hard to try and gain momentum. The Thunderwolves were able to draw even late in the quarter before taking a brief one point lead, 44-43 after three.
In the final quarter, the Thunderwolves opened on a 5-0 run to extend their lead to six points.
The Lancers would respond with an 8-0 run of their led by
Jessica Clemencon strong interior play.
Despite a late charge by the Thunderwolves, the Lancers were able to maintain their slim lead. Clemencon added four late points in the game's final minute to give her team the 61-60 victory.
In the win,
Emily Abbott finished with 17 points on 6 of 10 shooting to go along with 5 rebounds. Clemencon added 16 points and 8 rebounds.
The Lancers will be back in action on Wednesday night when they host the Guelph Gryphons at the St. Denis Centre. Tip-off is set for 6pm.
