The Lancer Women's Hockey program kicks off their 2010-11 regular season on Friday night against the Western Mustangs in London.
Head Coach
Jim Hunter's squad will be looking for a quicker start to their campaign, as they were only 5-11 in the first half of their season a year ago.
The Lancers will look to build on the momentum of their 9-2 run from the end of the season that they rode all the way to the OUA Semi Finals.
The new look Lancers got their first taste of action as they traveled to Boston to take on highly touted Boston College and Boston University programs in the pre-season.
The Lancers return 11 players from last season, including many of their top performers. Up front, Windsor retains the OUA's leading goal scorer in
Manon Davis (19-8-27) along with top line centre Candance Rapchak (5-10-15).
Other key returning veterans include defencemen
Lindsay Hoogstraten and Cassandra Finn and fifth year goaltender
Jamie Tessier, who led the CIS in saves last season.
Following a busy off-season of recruiting, Coach Hunter was able to add ten new faces to the line-up including Southwest Wildcats defencemen
Adalena Tridico and
Kayla Dodson, along with goaltender Casey Martin. These additions should help to provide the 2010-11 version of the Lancers with more defensive depth.
As well, freshmen forwards
Courtney Spoors,
Candace Kourounis and
Jenny MacKnight have joined the Blue and Gold. Spoors played last season for the Wildcats while Kourounis played in Markham and MacKnight was in Regina. These three acquisitions will be relied on heavily to provide a balanced scoring attack.
The puck drops on the 2010-11 OUA season this weekend. Windsor will open their home schedule on Saturday October 16th against UOIT at South Windsor Arena at 4:10 pm.
