Box Score In the first of a two game double header, the Lancer men's hockey team lost 5-4 in overtime to the visiting UQTR Patriots Friday night at Windsor Arena.
Windsor came out strong in the first period scoring on their first power play opportunity less than a minute into the game.
UQTR goaltender Jean-Christophe Blanchard kept the Lancers off the board for the remainder of the period as the Patriots took a one goal lead with goals by Francis Charland and Alexandre Demers.
The Lancers were hot to start the second period as
Ryan Caicco scored just twenty seconds into the frame to tie the game.
UQTR took a one goal lead again on a power play opportunity eight minutes later before the Lancers netted two unanswered goals by
Matt McCready, with his first of the year, and
Anthony Tapper to take a one goal lead heading into the third.
Francis Guerette-Charland tied the game for the Patriots on a lucky unassisted goal just over the mid-way point to send the game into extra time.
Windsor played exceptional hockey throughout the game but gave up a back puck in the overtime period that was screened, leaving Watt with no advantage in net, to lose the extra point to the visiting team.
Jim What made 29 saves in the game, while Blanchard turned aside 34 for the win.
The Lancers will seek revenge on Saturday afternoon as they take on the Patriots in game two of the weekend doubleheader. The puck is set to drop at 2:00pm at Windsor Arena.
All local minor hockey players who wear their jersey to the game will receive free admission into the game.
