Box Score
Led by Kyle Tront's two power play goals, the Lancer Men's Hockey team opened the playoffs with a 4-2 victory over the Waterloo Warriors on Wednesday night at Columbia Ice Field.

With the win, the Lancers take a 1-0 lead in the series against Waterloo and will now get ready for game two on Friday night at Windsor Arena. Puck drop is set for 7:30pm on Friday night.

On Wednesday, Waterloo opened the scoring late in the first period as captain Chris Ray snuck one past Lancer goaltender Jim Watt for the 1-0 lead.

The Lancers picked up their intensity in the second period and evened the score midway through the frame as Tront netted his first of two power play goals on the night to make it 1-1.

Waterloo retaliated just three minutes later to take a 2-1 leading heading into the final period.

Less than two minutes into the third, Brett Oliphant surprised Warrior goaltender Keaton Hartigan by tipping the puck over his shoulder to tie the game at two and kick-off the Lancer comeback.

Windsor continued to battle hard and peppered Hartigan with shots as they tried to take their first lead of the game.

Their hard work would eventually pay off as a wide shot behind the Warrior net bounced off the boards and directly to Tront who knocked it in behind Hartigan to give Windsor a 3-2 lead with seven minutes left in regulation.

The Warrirors would pull their goalie in favour of the extra attacker with under a minute to go. After spending most of that last minute in their own end, the Lancers got the puck out of their zone and away from the Warriors at the red line as Mark Thorburn fired the puck down the ice to secure the 4-2 victory.

Waterloo outshot Windsor 36-23 on the night but Jim Watt was solid in goal for the Lancers, making 34 saves for the victory.

Game two of the series will take place Friday night, February 19th at Windsor Arena. Puck is set to drop at 7:30pm.

Tickets are $8 for adults, and $5 for all students and seniors. Fans are asked to please note that the gate will open at 6:15pm and that regular season passes will not be accepted.
