The Lancer Women's Basketball team will take on the Ottawa Gee Gees for the OUA Provincial Championship for the second straight year on Saturday afternoon in Ottawa.
Tip-off for the game is set for 3pm on Saturday at Montpetit Hall, and can be viewed live at www.ssncanada.ca.
The Lancers sealed their ticket to the OUA final and a berth in the CIS women's basketball championship March 12-14 at McMaster University in Hamilton by knocking off the Western Mustangs 66-61 in the OUA West final on Wednesday.
The Gee Gees have been waiting for an opponent since locking up the OUA East title and a CIS tournament berth last Saturday after a 59-54 road victory over cross-town rival Carleton Ravens. The Gee-Gees have won consecutive road playoff games.
The Lancers have a combined record of 23-1 against OUA competition in both regular and post-season games, including a 70-53 victory over the Gee-Gees at Montpetit Hall on Nov. 14. First-year forward Jessica Clemencon was an offensive force scoring 26 points for the Lancers.
The Gee Gees have a 15-10 record, including three post-season wins. Ottawa features OUA leading scorer Hannah Sunley-Paisley with 415 regular season points. The third-year centre is also a force on the boards, with 237 rebounds. She was recently named East player of the year.
Ottawa will need to concern themselves with the accuracy of third-year Lancers guard Laura Mullins who was one of three players to shoot 50 percent or better in OUA this season. She was successful on 49-of-98 attempts.
Teammate Emily Abbott is also deadly from downtown, shooting 40.6 percent (28-of-69) from three-point range. The quarterback of the Lancers offence is fifth year senior Shavaun Reaney who was third among OUA players in assists.
When Ottawa's Sunley-Paisley isn't scoring buckets for the Gee Gees, third-year guard Emilie Morasse likely is, averaging 10.1 points per game. She is also strong defensively with 32 steals. Fourth-year Melina Wishart averaged 7.5 points per game while contributing 36 steals.
Tip off for this year's OUA Provincial championship, presented by the Investors Group, is at 3pm on Saturday. The game can be viewed live via webcast at www.ssncanada.ca,
