The Lancer women's soccer team shut out the York Lions 3-0 on Saturday afternoon to earn their first win of the season.
With the win, the Lancers are now 1-0-2 on the season and head into an eight day break before their next contest.
Windsor dominated the first half, scoring all three of their goals in the first twenty-one minutes of the contest.
Mereasa Brownlie put the Lancers on the board just eight minutes into the contest when headed a Sara Kox free kick into the net behind York goaltender Sarah Fiorini.
Fourth year Lancer Heather Daichendt scored her first OUA career goal three minutes later when Fiorini over committed, leaving Daichendt wide open on the other side of the 18 yard box.
The Lancers continued to control the play, and adding to their lead with Sara Kox's first goal of the OUA season with a deflection off of Tina Vagini's corner kick.
After a 15 minute lightening delay just before the half, the Lions came back refreshed and started to keep better control of the ball.
In a balanced second half, both teams forced the ball and keep each other out of scoring range.
Rebecca Singer recorded her first shut-out of the year, making five saves in the win.
Windsor will now take an extensive break in their schedule as they are not scheduled to play until Sunday September 19, 2010 when they host the Western Mustangs on Alumni Field at 1:00pm.
