The Lancer Men's Soccer team was blanked 3-0 by the Western Mustangs Wednesday night in OUA action on Alumni Field.
Windsor now sits at 1-2-2 on the season and 6th in the OUA West division.
Western's winning goal came at the 28-minute mark of the first half when the Mustangs were awarded a penalty shot after a controversial foul call in the box during their own corner kick. Eric Amato was able to take advantage and get Western on the board as Lancer goaltender Dan Mendonca was unable to make the save.
Western's Vince Caminiti took advantage of the fired-up Windsor team as he scored only a couple minutes after Western's initial goal. He dribbled through a number of Windsor defenders and hit the bottom corner of the net to beat Mendonca.
At the 76 minute mark, Western's Alex Martins took advantage of an open shot in Windsor's 18-yard box and was able to put one past the Lancer keeper for the last time in the game.
Windsor showed many signs of possession throughout the game, however were unable to generate many scoring opportunities as they only registered 3 shots on net over the course of the game.
Western's strong offense along with the unfortunate foul early in the game allowed Western to take control of the scoring and come out with the win.
The Lancers will now head to Oshawa on Sunday afternoon to take on the UOIT Ridgebacks. In their last meeting, the Lancers and Ridgebacks played to a 1-1 draw.
Windsor returns home on Saturday September 25th when they host the Guelph Gryphons on Alumni Field at 3:15pm.
