Mendonca registers pair of shutouts in draws with Guelph and McMaster

Dan Mendonca earned his fifth regular season shutout this past weekend with a pair of 0-0 draws against the Guelph Gryphons and McMaster Marauders in OUA men's soccer action.

Windsor is now 1-2-5 on the season, and sits 6th overall in the OUA West division.

The Lancers gained some early momentum on Saturday afternoon against Guelph.

Windsor's Chris Lanni rung a shot off of the goal post just minutes into the game, while midfielder Mike Watson broke through the Guelph defence halfway through the first half and also hit the cross bar to keep the game tied at zero.

Guelph applied heavy pressure in the second half, registering five shots on Mendonca.

Windsor's Ryan Wise and Guelph's Drew Gowan led their respective teams with two shots on net apiece.

Mendonca made six saves in net for Windsor.

On Sunday against MAC, both teams showed signs of strong possession, but neither was able to get on the board, even though there were a number of shots registered.

Watson had the best chance to earn the win for Windsor breaking through the Marauder defence and finding himself one on one with McMaster keeper Matthew Grant. Unfortunately, like the day before, Watson beat the goaltender but again hit the cross bar.

The second half turned physical with five yellow cards being passed out between the two teams.

The Marauders had their best chances to take the lead in the second half, but also hit the cross bar on two occasions to keep the score deadlocked.

Mendonca was busy in net for Windsor making eight saves for his third straight shut-out and fifth overall on the year.

Windsor will now host the Waterloo Warriors on Alumni Weekend on Saturday October 2nd at 8:00pm on Alumni Field. Festivities include an autograph session with both teams in between games, and a number of exciting contests at halftime.

Admission is free, and the first full ten minor soccer teams that arrive in uniform will receive a practise on Alumni Field.
