Lancers set to battle Mustangs and Warriors at home this weekend

Frank Dayus will start in net against the Warriors on Saturday
The Windsor Lancer men's hockey team returns to action this weekend as they are set to host the No. 4 Ranked Western Mustangs in a highly anticipated test for the Blue & Gold.

Coming into this weekend's game, Coach Kevin Hamlin's squad is reeling after picking up consecutive wins for the first time since November.

The Lancers, who haven't seen the Mustangs since they knocked them out of the OUA West Semi-Finals last February, still have a bitter taste in their mouth and will look to steal two points from the first place Mustangs. The Blue & Gold have started to heat up as of late, winning their last two games against the Brock Badgers and Guelph Gryphons.

In both of those games, Windsor got tremendous goaltending from Jim Watt, who continues to solidify himself as a top goalie in the league. The Lancers will look to contain the highflying offence of the Mustangs with tight defense, strength of this season's team.

On Saturday the Lancers will play host to the Waterloo Warriors as they look to avenge a 2-1 shootout loss from earlier in the season. Danny Anger tallied early in the first period for Windsor on a nice passing play from Kyle Nishizaki and Kyle Makaric, while Jim Watt made 40 saves in an impressive effort.

The Lancers will also start goaltender Frank Dayus against the Warriors, as Watt leaves to compete for Canada in the World University Games from Jan 27-Feb 6 in Turkey.

Dayus was solid in net for the Lancers in the half of the season, boasting a 0.920 save percentage.

With only seven games remaining on the schedule every point counts down the stretch in the tight OUA West Division. Sitting only five points behind the Warriors, who sit in 4th place, this weekend will be extremely important for the Lancers to remain in the playoff hunt and climb up the standings.

Puck drop is set for 7:30pm on Friday against the Mustangs, and 7:30pm Saturday against the Warriors. Both games will be played at Windsor Arena.
