After an exciting weekend on the road, the Lancer men's hockey team returns home to take on the No. 9 Lakehead Thunderwolves in a weekend doubleheader.
The Lancers are currently riding a five game winning streak after a pair of wins against the UOIT Ridgebacks last weekend in Oshawa. Windsor scored a season high 10 goals against UOIT last Saturday, and were led by Lancer Athlete of the Week
Evan Stibbard who recorded a hat trick and a team high five points.
D.J. Turner chipped in three assists, while goaltender
Parker Van Buskirk turned in yet another solid performance in between the pipes for the Blue & Gold, who improved to 7-5-0 on the year.
With the wins, the Lancers have moved into sole possession of third place in the OUA West Division and sit only four points behind Western and Lakehead
Against Lakehead, Windsor is going to need another solid effort from Van Buskirk, as the Thunderwolves are on a hot streak of their own, winning nine of their last 10 contests, including a 5-4 win over Guelph on Saturday.
Van Buskirk currently sports a 2.60 GAA and a .926 save percentage over the five-game winning streak.
The Thunderwolves are led by third year forward Matt Caria who has 6 goals and 19 points through 12 games this season. Goaltender Alex Dupuis has compiled a 6-0-1 record with a 2.41 GAA and a .912 SV% for the Thunderwolves, who are tied for first place with the Mustangs.
The last time these two teams did battle Lakehead won a tightly contested game by the score of 4-2.
In their final set of home games in 2011, the Lancers will drop the puck at 7:30pm on both Friday and Saturday night at Windsor Arena. Windsor will close out the first half of the season with road games against the York Lions and Waterloo Warriors.
