Box Score The Lancer men's hockey team ended the regular season on a high, as they defeated the Laurier Golden Hawks 4-3 in a shootout on Saturday night in Waterloo.
Windsor ends the season with a 12-12-4 record and in eighth place in the OUA West division.
The Lancers will face the first place Western Mustangs in round one of the playoffs. Game one of the best of three series will take place on Thursday in London, before heading back to Windsor on Friday night.
In a game with seventeen minor penalties, the Hawks Jordan Bonneville would open the scoring with the man-advantage. Both teams notched two power play markers, Laurier going 2-for-8 to the Lancers' 2-for-5.
Windsor's
Tom Craig got off to an early start in the second scoring 1:27 in.
Mark Thorburn would add his seventh of the year on the power play two minutes later for a 2-1 Lancers lead after two.
Laurier would come back in the third as Jean Michel-Rizk potted his twelfth. Zackory Ray scored his third of the year on the power play for five points in eleven games to give the Hawks the lead.
Brett Oliphant (netted a power play marker of his own to tie the game at three and send the game into overtime. Nothing would be solved in the extra period so the game went into a shootout.
Mike Lombardi shot first for the Lancers and scored the lone goal.
Jim Watt of Edmonton stopped all three Laurier shooters to earn his ninth win of the year. He made 28 saves in the game.
The Lancers will look to keep this momentum going on Thursday in London. Puck is set to drop at 7:30pm before heading back to Windsor for game two on Friday. That game is also slated for 7:30pm at Windsor Arena.
