Men's soccer earns four points over weekend

The Lancer men's soccer team earned four points over the weekend, as they hosted the Waterloo Warriors and Laurier Golden Hawks in their first set of home games.

 

After an eventful first half against Waterloo on Saturday which included a number of scoring chances by both teams, the score remained tied a zero heading into the break.

 

Lancer Dave Salinitri brought some spark into the game in the 81st minute to open the scoring with a low shot into the corner. to put the Lancers up 1-0.

 

Just seven minutes later, Windsor's Renato Galusic concluded the game's scoring in the 88th minute of play to give the Lancers a 2-0 win.

 

Sam Atkin earned his first shut-out of the season with the win.

 

On Sunday against Laurier, the Lancers came away with a 1-1 tie against the visiting Hawks.

 

Possession remained even throughout the first half, before, in the 36th minute of play, Windsor striker Dave Salinitri received a through ball, allowing him to breakaway and put the ball past the Laurier keeper to make it 1-0 Lancers.

 

Windsor had a nice attempt off of a free-kick in the 70th minute of play, however the ball was headed and soared just wide of the goal.

 

The Golden Hawks pressed hard at the end of the half, with Atkin with a couple of key saves in extra time. Laurier was then awarded a penalty kick and Donald Chumra's shot was successful, allowing the Golden Hawks to tie the game 1-1.

 

The Lancers will travel to London on Friday night to face the Western Mustangs and then head to Oshawa on Saturday September 17th to face the UOIT Ridgebacks at 1:00pm.
