The Lancers remained undefeated for their sixth straight game as they tied both the Guelph Gryphons and York Lions 1-1 on Lancer Soccer alumni weekend.
With the ties, the Lancers are now 2-2-4 on the season, and sit fifth overall in the OUA West division.
The game against Guelph was tight right from the start, and the Lancers had a number of early chances to take the lead. At the 16th minute mark for the first half, Tony Falkestein's cross was headed by
Michael Pio just over the crossbar. A second attempt off of a header by
Paul Mai occurred at the 25th minute mark.
Guelph also had multiple chances in both the first and second half, Lancers goalie
Sam Atkin came up with multiple saves tallying eight throughout the course of the game.
Guelph striker Robert Murphy had a couple of nice opportunities to get his team on the board and did just that at the 36th minute mark when he scored on an open Windsor net after Atkin had aggressively came out to make the initial save.
Windsor countered back just before half when
Paul Frenken's direct free-kick was blasted into the corner of the net, tying the game 1-1.
Windsor's two best chances to take the lead came at the 64th and 67th minute of play as
Massimo Megna had a shot that sailed just over the goal, which was followed by a breakaway off a through ball, in which the shot was also just over the goal.
Against York,
the Lancers capitalized early on in the game when Paul Frenken's free-kick attempt to Mike Pio was successful. Pio headed the ball past Lions keeper Sotiri Varlokostas just three minutes into the game.
In the 16th minute mark the same play was executed, however Pio's header hit the inside of the cross-bar and was waved off as no goal.
Joe Camaj had a couple of opportunities to put the Lancers up by two but Varlokostas was able to hold him off.
Lancer keeper Sam Atkin had an outstanding game, as he was forced to come up with one big save after another, tallying 15 throughout the course of the game.
York's offense applied a great deal of pressure in the second half however the Lancer defence led by keeper Atkin and sweeper Chris Hakim were able to keep the Lancers in the game.
Windsor's best attempt to score a second goal came off Chris Lanni's feed to Frenken, but yet again, Varlokostas made another great save to keep the Lancers from advancing on the scoreboard.
With the game just about in the books, the Lions managed to tie the game in the 89th minute off a free kick from midfielder Adrian Pena's into the bottom corner of the net
The Lancers will host the McMaster Marauders on a rare Friday night game on September 30th at 9:15pm.
