Lancers shut-out Gryphons and Lions on Alumni Weekend

The Lancer women's soccer team shut out the visiting Guelph Gryphons and York Lions on Soccer Alumni Weekend.

The Lancers are now 4-2-1 on the season and sit in second place in the OUA West division. The games was also marked the Lancers fifth shut-out in six games. 

Two first half goals led the Lancer women's soccer team to a 2-0 shut-out victory over the visiting Guelph Gryphons on Saturday.

The Lancers demonstrated heavy pressure early on, out possessing the Gryphons thoughout the first half

The Windosr offense looked sharp as Nicole Dowell had a couple of scoring chances including a shot that soared right under the cross bar but was saved by Guelph's keeper Alexandra Keddy.

Candace Garrod and Sara Kox also had opportunities to score in the half. However, the first goal was netted by midfielder Kelly Riccardi with a beautiful header off of Kox's cross into the box at the 17th minute mark of the half.
In the 41st minute the Lancers made the score 2-0 as Riccardi's throw-in to Tiffany Phillips was successful and she was able to head it into the goal behind Keddy.

The Gryphons picked up the pace in the second half and the possession evened out however Windsor was able to pull out the win and shutout.
On Sunday, the Lancers drew a 0-0 tie against the Lions. 

Play throughout the first half remained even as both teams had opportunities to get on the scoreboard.
 
Windsor striker Candace Garrod had a couple of shots on net but was unable to convert early on.
 
York's offense also had a couple of nice opportunities, however Lancer keeper Rebecca Singer came up with two tremendous saves in the 25th and 32nd minute of the half to keep the game knotted at zero.
 
Lions' goaltender Sarah Fiorini stopped some nice Lancer attacks early in the second. Later in the half Windsor demonstrated strong pressure as Kox, Garrod, and Brownlie all had shots on goal that were stopped by Fiorini.
 
The Lancers will play a rare Friday night game this week as they host the McMaster Marauders at 7:00pm on September 30th.
