Box Score The Windsor Lancers Men's Basketball team turned in a dominating performance on Saturday night as they overpowered the Brock Badgers 78-57 at the St. Denis Centre.
With the victory, the Lancers have now won eight straight conference games and sit at 11-3 in regular season play.
They are also only one game out of first place in the OUA West division as they head down the stretch towards the playoffs.
The Badgers meanwhile fall to 8-6 in conference play and are now tied for fifth with the Guelph Gryphons.
On Saturday night, after an evenly played opening quarter, the Lancers opened up a 10-point lead in the second as they outscored the Badgers 19-7 in the quarter and went ahead 36-25 at the half.
The featured match-up of the evening's contest saw Lancer rookie Junior Osuntola matched up with Brock transfer Jameson Tipping. Osuntola dominated with a game-high 17 points on 6 of 10 shooting, including 4 of 6 from three point range. The Holy Names grad from Windsor also added 8 rebounds in a spectacular all around performance. For the Badgers, Tipping finished with 7 points on 3 of 11 shooting, but was 0 for 5 from three point range.
The second half was more of the same for the Lancers as they continued to apply pressure at both ends of the court. Coach Oliver's team got outstanding low post scoring from forwards
Lien Phillip and
Ryan Christie who finished with 12 points and 15 rebounds and 10 points and 10 rebounds, respectively.
The Lancers stretched their lead to 61-41 after three quarters of play and led by as many as 26 points on the night as they cruised to the 78-57 win.
Henock Araia added 9 points and 3 rebounds for the Lancers while
Michael Godfrey chipped in with 5 points in the victory.
Windsor will be back at home next weekend for a pair of huge games against the first place Lakehead Thunderwolves. Tip-off is set for 8pm on both Friday and Saturday night. Saturday is also Breast Cancer Awareness Day as the Lancers will be raising money for Breast Cancer Research that night.
