Lancers overpower Thunderwolves 79-52 Friday night st St. Denis Centre

Box Score The No. 2 Lancer women's basketball team easily defeated the visiting Lakehead Thunderwolves 79-52 in their first game of a weekend doubleheader.

With the win, the Lancers are now 14-2 in regular season action and continue to sit on top of the OUA West division standings. Windsor and Lakehead will play game two of the weekend series on Saturday night at 6:00pm at the St. Denis Centre.

Mid-way through the first quarter, the Lancers opened up the scoring with a 15-0 run en route to a 29-11 lead after the first ten minutes, and a 48-28 lead at the break

The Lancers led a balanced attack through out the second half as they controlled the back boards and capitalized on a number of Lakehead turnovers.

Jessica Clemencon led all scorers with 17 points. Four other Lancers finished with double-digits in the win, as Miah-Marie Langlois, Bojana Kovacevic, and Korissa Williams all finished with 11 points, while Bethany Wachna contributed 10. Willams also led the game with 9 rebounds.

For the Thunderwolves, Lindsey Druery had a team high 12 points and six rebounds, while Carolyn Fragale had 10 points and 3 rebounds.

Saturday's game is part of the Windsor Lancers Breast Cancer Awareness Day. The department of athletics will be selling pink CIS "Shoot for the Cure" reuseable tote bags for only $5, with all proceeds going to breast cancer research.

Both teams will be sporting pink during their warm-ups and during the game. Tip-off is set for 6:00pm immediately following a special breast cancer ceremonial tip-off.

Tickets are only $8 for adults and $5 for youth and senior. The game can also be seen live on TVCogeco Windsor and streamed live on www.ssncanada.ca.
