Mullins leads Lancers to weekend sweep of Thunderwolves

Laura Mullins had a game-high 18 points in the Lancer victory over Lakehead on Saturday.
Box Score The Windsor Lancers Women's Basketball team completed the weekend sweep of the Lakehead Thunderwolves as they cruised to a 77-42 victory on Saturday night at the St. Denis Centre.

With the win, the #2 nationally ranked Lancers move to 15-2 in conference play and remain in first place in the OUA West division.

On Saturday night, with the Department of Athletics hosting their Shoot for the Cure game as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Day, the Lancers put together two outstanding middle quarters to seize control of the game.

Windsor led 17-16 after one quarter but began to dominate in the second as they outscored the Thunderwolves 18-6 in the frame. The visitors from Thunder Bay had trouble stopping Windsor's potent offensive attack as the home team built a 35-22 halftime lead.

After the break, the Lancers continued to apply tremendous pressure at both ends of the court as they opened up a 20-point lead on the Thunderwolves. Veteran Laura Mullins was red hot from long range as she connected on 4 of her first 5 three-point attempts to help her team extend their lead.

The Lancers outscored Lakehead 21-6 in the third quarter and led 56-28 after thirty minutes.

In the final quarter, Windsor got some strong post play from rookie Tessa Kreiger who finished 3 of 3 from the field for 9 points and added 4 rebounds as they cruised to the 77-42 victory.

In the win, Laura Mullins had a game-high 18 points on 6 of 11 shooting from the field, including 4 of 8 from long range. Bojana Kovacevic also had a big game as she finished with 14 points on 4 of 5 shooting from three-point land.

Lancer guards Korissa Williams and Miah Langlois were also effective as Williams finished with 10 points, 6 steals, 5 rebounds and 4 assists while Langlois chipped in with 8 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists.

CIS Player of the Year Jessica Clemencon added 8 points and 13 rebounds for the Lancers.

Windsor will next get ready for the Laurier Golden Hawks who will come to town on Wedneday, February 1st. Tip-off is set for 6pm.
