Women's Soccer earns point on weekend road trip

The Lancer women's soccer team earned a point on a road trip over the weekend. The Lancers drew a 1-1 tie against the Guelph Gryphons on Saturday before falling 6-1 to York on Sunday.

Windsor is now 0-7-3 on the season and are in eighth in the OUA West division.

The Gryphons wasted no time in creating several strong chances in the opening minutes deep in Lancer territory. Despite their attempts, the Lancers held strong and kept the Gryphons off the board. Guelph was then forced to concede a penalty kick in the 17th minute and Lancer Cassandra Quayson was awarded with the go-ahead goal.

Some solid ball control in the second half by the Gryphons resulted in a quick Gryphon attack in the 48th minute as Courtney Whiteside scored the tying goal.

However, Windsor was determined to regain their lead with another strong attack on Guelph's goal.  However a great save by Megan Klimas kept the game tied up at one.

On Sunday, the Lions had a strong first half and held a 5-0 lead heading into the break.

Windsor opened up the scoring in the second half, with a goal by Nicole Hay in the 76th minute of play.

The Lions would score one more before the game's end to earn the 6-1 win.

Windsor will now travel to London on Friday to take on the Western Mustangs before heading home on Sunday to host the UOIT Ridgebacks at 12:00pm on Alumni Field.
