PLAYOFF UPDATE: Lancers set to battle Mustangs in Western Conference Finals

The Windsor Lancers Men's Hockey will continue their thrilling playoff run when they battle the Western Mustangs in the OUA Western Conference Finals this week in a best of three series.

Game one is set for Wednesday night in London at 7:30pm Thompson Arena.

A block of tickets for game one have been reserved for Windsor fans, and can be purchased by calling the Mustangs box office at 519-661-4077. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for youth, seniors, and students. All fans have to do is mention they are with Windsor and they will get tickets from this block. A fan bus will not be organized for the trip.

Game two will be back in Windsor on Friday night at 7:30pm at Windsor Arena. Friday night's game will also be the final hockey game ever played at "the Barn".

If necessary, game three will be back in London on Sunday night.

The Lancers advanced to the western conference finals after an emotional three-game series win over the Lakehead Thunderwolves on the weekend.

After dropping game one 3-2 in overtime, the Lancers bounced back with a pair of victories over the Thunderwolves in Thunder Bay on the weekend.

Windsor picked up a 4-1 win on Friday night in game two and followed that up with a 3-2 overtime win on Saturday to clinch the series. Fifth year senior Scott Todd scored the overtime winner to send the Lancers on to the western conference finals for the first time in over a decade.

Few would have picked Todd to be the overtime scoring hero for the Lancers.

“I don't get too many, so that's by far one of the biggest,” the 25-year-old Todd said. “It was definitely shocking. It went right in, but I stood there for a second until I was sure.”

Head Coach Kevin Hamlin's squad will now play the fourth-ranked Western Mustangs. The Lancers won the season series against the Mustangs two games to one.

The best-of-three series opens Wednesday in London with Game 2 set for Friday at Windsor Arena.

“It was a huge step for the program to go up to Thunder Bay and win two games,” said Todd, whose team has now won 10 of its last 11 games. “The league has to take notice of the talent Coach Hamlin has brought in.”

The Lancers have benefitted from outstanding goaltending from Parker Van Buskirk, who stopped 48 of 50 shots in the game three win over Lakehead.

“We got two great (road) games from Bussie,” Todd said. "The guys have a lot of confidence in him."

Be sure to catch all the exciting playoff action on Friday night as the Lancers host game two of the western conference finals against the Western Mustangs at 7:30pm at Windsor Arena.
